Stori and Dr. Simi Expand Access to Credit in Mexico

Mexico’s financial technology sector is taking another step toward expanding access to credit through a new partnership between fintech leader Stori and Farmacias Similares, the nationwide pharmacy chain recognized by its popular mascot, Dr. Simi.

The two companies have introduced the Dr. Simi Card by Stori, a co-branded credit card with no annual fee that is designed to make formal credit more accessible for millions of Mexicans. By combining Stori’s digital banking platform with Farmacias Similares’ extensive network of more than 11,000 locations, the initiative aims to reach consumers who have traditionally had limited or no access to banking services.

Unlike conventional banks that rely on physical branches, the partnership uses the pharmacy chain’s established presence across the country to connect customers with financial services. The card offers fast approval, pharmacy discounts, cashback rewards, and can be used anywhere major credit cards are accepted. The program is intended to help families manage everyday expenses, including healthcare costs, through more affordable access to credit.

Applicants can begin the process online by visiting Stori’s Farmacias Similares page, where they provide an email address and mobile phone number before downloading the Stori app. To complete the application, users must present an official photo ID, such as an INE voter identification card, proof of address, and a selfie taken in natural light. Once approved, the card can be activated through the app.

The launch addresses a significant need in Mexico, where an estimated 50 million adults still have limited or no access to formal credit. This underserved market has become a major focus for financial technology companies seeking new ways to expand banking services beyond traditional institutions.

The collaboration also reflects a broader trend in Mexico’s financial sector, as fintech companies increasingly partner with well-established consumer brands instead of competing solely through conventional banking channels. Trusted retail businesses are becoming important gateways to financial services, making banking products more accessible through places consumers already visit regularly.

For Farmacias Similares, the move marks an expansion beyond healthcare retail into financial services, demonstrating how established brands are embracing fintech partnerships to better serve their customers. For Stori, which now serves more than five million customers, the agreement strengthens its position as one of Mexico’s leading digital financial platforms while significantly extending its reach through one of the country’s most recognized retail networks.

As fintech innovation continues to reshape Mexico’s banking landscape, partnerships like this one are helping bridge the gap between financial services and everyday life, giving more consumers access to credit and additional tools to manage their finances.
