Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The city of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, has been ranked as the third safest city in the country according to the latest National Safety Survey results, which were released by INEGI on Thursday, April 16, 2020.
Every year during the first two weeks of March, June, September and December, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) conducts a National Urban Public Security Survey (ENSU) to determine the public’s perception of personal safety and security in cities throughout Mexico.
This nationwide census includes the following concepts:
• Feeling of insecurity for fear of crime
• Social expectation about the crime trend
• Witnessing of criminal or antisocial behavior
• Changing routines for fear of being a victim of crime (bad experiences)
According to the results of the 27th ENSU survey, which was conducted by the INEGI in March, the cities in which the public felt safest were: San Pedro Garza Garcia, Nuevo Leon and Merida, Yucatan, in first and second place respectively, followed by Puerto Vallarta, which has regained its position in the top 5 after falling to sixth place in the last ENSU survey conducted by the INEGI in 2019.
“In the previous survey Puerto Vallarta registered that 34.2 percent of those surveyed said they felt unsafe. In this latest survey the percentage of respondents who said they felt insecure dropped to 31.8 percent; that is, 2.4 points less than the survey conducted in December 2019,” the municipal government of Puerto Vallarta said in a press release.
Regarding government performance when it comes to crime prevention, Puerto Vallarta continues to be considered among the cities with the best perception among the population, which recognizes the municipal government as “very or somewhat effective” in solving the most important problems.
