Upcoming IAMPV Orchestra Concerts Salute Mexican Music

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Instituto de Artes Musicales Puerto Vallarta (IAMPV) is thrilled to welcome the very talented Aquiles Morales to the conductor’s podium at the Vallarta Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming ‘Con Saludos a México’ concerts on February 19 and 20.

Orchestra program highlights:

Vallarta Suite by John Robertson

Concierto del Sur (Concerto of the South) by Manuel M. Ponce

Mexicano, a collection of Mexican folk music including famous dances, songs, and Las Mañanitas, arranged for orchestra by Robert Bauernschmidt

Chaconne in Mi Menor by Danish Baroque organist and composer Dieterich Buxtehude. Originally written for organ, this powerful work was arranged for orchestra by the Mexican composer Carlos Chavez.

Don’t miss the Vallarta Symphony Orchestra’s ‘Con Saludos a México’ concerts on February 19 and 20. These concerts will feature the intricate and expressive stylings of guitarist Antonio Navarro, performing the Concierto del Sur. This stunning piece for classical guitar and orchestra was written by Mexican composer Manuel M. Ponce for Spanish guitar legend Andrés Segovia, who premiered it in 1941.

The Sunday, February 19, 2023 performance (5 pm) will be at the Melia Hotel, Paseo de la Marina Sur #7 in Marina Vallarta. (See Google Map)

However, for a definitely SUPERIOR LISTENING EXPERIENCE, the Monday, February 20, 2023 (5 pm) performance is the way to go – it will be held in Paradise Village/Nuevo Vallarta, at the Salon Paraiso/Harkness Institute, Paseo de Los Cocoteros #13. The acoustics are superlative and the room is really elegant and beautiful. (See Google Map)

JAZZ IT UP WITH SALTY PAW

The Salty Paw Jazz Orchestra will be playing FREE concerts at the Marina Art and Market on Thursdays, February 16 and March 23 from 6:30-8:30 pm. Come out and enjoy the tunes of jazz greats Freddie Hubbard, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Herbie Hancock, Nat Adderley, and Sonny Rollins – plus some favorite pop pieces.

They’ll also be playing at the IFC Fundraiser at Oscar’s Restaurant on Sunday, March 5 at 4 pm.

Your ticket, available at ifcvallarta.org, will be supporting an important program for young people who learn to create music as well as concerts for the communities of Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta. Can’t attend? Support a deserving budding musician by purchasing a ticket for them.

IAMPV (Instituto de Artes Musicales Puerto Vallarta) is dedicated to changing kid’s lives through music, to expanding the musical and cultural conversation in the Banderas Bay region, to teaching children the discipline of study and mastery as well as learning how to work as part of a team. IAMPV, an asociación civil, is a non-profit volunteer organization which receives no government support. You are the key to providing music enrichment for area youth and audiences.
