Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta continues to take steps toward inclusion and equality with the recent relocation of its Sexual Diversity Office to Lázaro Cárdenas Park, also known as Parque de Los Azulejos, in the city’s Romantic Zone. The office is now open to the public from 9 am to 4 pm, offering valuable services designed to support the LGBTQ+ community.
Led by local activist Héctor Ramírez Betancourt, the office provides legal advice from attorneys experienced in LGBTQ+ issues; compassionate psychological support from trained professionals who understand the unique experiences within the community; and tourist information to ensure visitors can enjoy the city and its many attractions with a sense of security and belonging.

“The Office of Sexual Diversity is deeply dedicated to fostering a secure and supportive environment for the LGBTQ+ community,” stated Ramírez Betancourt. “This move to a more accessible location represents significant progress towards fulfilling that commitment. We extend our sincere gratitude to Mayor Luis Munguía for his invaluable support in making this important transition possible.”
The Office of Sexual Diversity was created after the Puerto Vallarta City Council approved reforms to the Municipal Government Regulations in December 2024. The reforms added Article 230, which officially established the department within the Quality of Life and Social Development Directorate. Its mission is to promote equality, inclusion, dignity, and non-discrimination for LGBTQ+ individuals.
In early 2025, Mayor Munguía appointed Ramírez Betancourt as the department’s first director, recognizing his long history of activism and commitment to the community. The move was also part of a broader effort to improve efficiency within the city government.
Now, with its new location in one of Vallarta’s most popular public spaces, the Sexual Diversity Office stands ready to continue its work, offering support, guidance, and resources to all who need them. It’s a proud reflection of the city’s dedication to diversity, respect, and human rights.
