Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – WestJet is expanding its winter 2026–2027 flight schedule, adding dozens of new weekly flights to Puerto Vallarta to keep up with strong travel demand from Canada. Driven by travelers eager to swap freezing temperatures for coastal sunshine, the airline – which also operates Sunwing – plans to bolster connections out of five key Canadian hubs.
This expanded schedule targets travelers in Edmonton, Kelowna, Regina, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg, offering significantly more flexibility for winter getaways.
Edmonton will see one of the largest increases. WestJet plans to move from 13 weekly flights during the 2025-2026 winter season to 17 flights per week for 2026-2027.
Service from Kelowna will rise from four to five weekly flights, while Regina will increase from three to five. Saskatoon will also go from four to five weekly flights.
The biggest jump will come from Winnipeg. WestJet will double its service from six flights per week to 12, providing significantly more capacity for travelers heading to Puerto Vallarta.
Altogether, the update adds 56 additional monthly flights into Puerto Vallarta. Powered by 174-seat Boeing 737 aircraft, this expansion adds nearly 9,800 extra seats per month into the region during the busiest stretch of the year.
The timing could not be better for the local economy. The increase arrives ahead of the peak winter tourism period, when Canadian visitors traditionally make up an important share of Puerto Vallarta’s international arrivals.
More flights can have an impact beyond the airport. An increase in Canadian visitors could support hotel occupancy and bring additional business to restaurants, transportation providers, tour operators, shops and other tourism-related businesses.
For Puerto Vallarta, the expanded WestJet schedule is another sign that airlines continue to see strong potential in the Mexican Pacific destination’s Canadian market as the 2026-2027 winter season approaches.
