Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The most important film event in the city and the region, the Puerto Vallarta International Film Festival, will take place from June 15 to 22, 2022. A selection of premiere short films, full-length movies and documentaries will be presented at various venues throughout the city.
Organized by El Centro Universitario de la Costa (CUCosta), and supported by the Guadalajara International Film Festival, the University of Guadalajara, Jalisco’s Government and the Ministry of Culture, the Puerto Vallarta International Film Festival (FICPV) will feature a selection of premiere short films, full-length films and documentaries.
During Wednesday’s press conference, the rector of CUCOSTA, Jorge Téllez, explained that this is a festival for all, so in addition to serving as a forum for training, instruction and creative exchange between professionals, international film critics and students from the region, they are working to ensure everyone’s enjoyment by diversifying its activities.
“We are very happy to host this Festival in Puerto Vallarta again, it is a pleasure for the entire university community to be able to offer this sample of the seventh art for everyone,” he said.
For his part, the director of the festival, Pavel Cortés Almanza, stressed that in addition to academic activities and workshops focused on cinema, there will be free screenings of short films, feature films and documentary premieres that are free and open to the public.
The 22nd edition of FICPV will bring together emerging talent and established film directors such as Mariana Bastos, Bruce LaBruce, Lena Karbe, Sean Ford, Joao González and Iván Mora, among others, who come from Mexico, Canada, the United States, Portugal and Iberian America.
The Festival is made up of the Official and Academic sections and the Maguey Award. The “Rigo Mora Award” short film program deserves a special mention, alternating with the short films produced in Vallarta that were entered in the second “El mar en Corto” contest.
In addition, there will be two projections of national cinema: Celeste Soledad and Goya.
“These are two debut films that will be premiering here, two very interesting films that are new to the country’s film scene,” Jorge Téllez said.
The inaugural gala will take place on Wednesday, June 15th at 6:00 pm at the CUCosta facilities, where the film Raquel 1:1 (Brazil, 2022) will be screened and both director Mariana Bastos and actress Valentina Herszage will be present.
The closing ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 22nd at 7:00 pm at Act2PV, where the film Mi vacío y yo (Spain, 2022) will be screened and both director Adrián Silvestre and the actress Raphaelle Pérez will be present.
In addition to the CUCosta, other FICPV22 venues are Biblioteca Los Mangos, Taller OPC, Escuela Preparatoria Regional de Puerto Vallarta and Universidad de la Vera Cruz.
All festival activities are completely free and open to the public. Registration in advance is required for the workshops.
Schedules of the festival’s movies and activities are now available on the FICPV22 website and the Festival’s official page on Facebook.
