25th Oyster Festival in Bucerías Draws 15,000 Visitors

Bucerías, Nayarit, Mexico – Bucerías came alive the weekend of April 19–20 as more than 15,000 visitors gathered to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the National Oyster Festival – an event that continues to grow in success thanks to the leadership of Bahía de Banderas Mayor Héctor Javier Santana García.

With music, family fun, and food at the heart of the festivities, the coastal town offered 10,000 freshly harvested oysters and 500 kilos of ceviche, all prepared by local divers. The festival, organized in collaboration with Bucerías’ oyster diving community and supported by the Bahía de Banderas government, was a showcase of tradition, unity, and community pride.

“This is more than a celebration – it’s a way to support our oyster divers and their families,” said Daniel Cárdenas, Director of Economic Development. He emphasized that the mayor’s commitment made the event not only memorable but also meaningful. “Our goal was to improve sales for the diving sector, and we achieved that. The divers were happy, and they received direct financial support from Mayor Santana.”

Visitors enjoyed a variety of lively performances from diverse musical groups while learning about the local heritage tied to Bucerías, whose name translates to “Place of Divers.” The turnout included both residents and tourists, contributing to a major boost in the town’s economy and reinforcing its identity as a hub for culture, seafood, and seaside charm.

“We’re promoting festivals like this to strengthen tourism and create lasting benefits for the local economy,” Cárdenas added. He highlighted the importance of circular economic practices, where residents support local producers and artisans, helping the entire region thrive.

The 2025 National Oyster Festival not only honored Bucerías’ past but also set the tone for a future full of shared success and community celebration.
