Insurgentes Street Bridge Open, More Work to be Done

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – While inaugurating the new Insurgentes Street bridge on Friday, Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez said that, though the bridge that connects downtown Puerto Vallarta with the Romantic Zone is now open to traffic, there is still work to be done before the rainy season begins. These works include reinforcement of the banks and the channeling of the river.

In the meantime, bus routes will not be reestablished. Public transportation users who have had to walk from Mina street to cross the Cuale to the south of the city or use the Libramiento route these past several months will have to continue doing so.

The old bridge, which was built in just 100 days and inaugurated on October 3, 1959, was demolished by the strong flood caused by the effects of hurricane “Nora” during the night of August 28 and early morning of August 29, 2021. The new bridge over the Cuale River, was built in 8 months, costing the State close to 60 million pesos.

During his visit to Puerto Vallarta, the Governor announced that the State would also invest 18 million pesos in the rehabilitation of the Puerto Vallarta (Conchas Chinas) – Mismaloya stretch of Highway 200, although the work will not begin until after the Easter vacation period.
