February 2024 News from PuRR Project Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter just north of Puerto Vallarta that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

UPCOMING EVENTS

KITTY BINGO: At Nacho Daddy every other Wednesday throughout the season at 4:00. That means February 14th and 28th this month. Maybe treat your special someone to some fun at BINGO before heading out to that romantic Valentine’s Day dinner? Or even win a gift certificate to one of our restaurant sponsors to help pay for that special dinner! MEOW!!

SATURDAY MARKET: We’re just outside Daiquiri Dick’s every Saturday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Our popular logo T-shirts in both men’s & women’s sizes and different colors and styles to choose from make amazing gifts! We also have caps, coffee cups, drink holders and kitty ears. Or maybe you just need to pet a kitten! So stop by on Saturday and say “Hello” to our volunteers.

SPECIAL NEEDS CATS

We occasionally get an abandoned or rescued kitty who has lost an eye or has a badly damaged eye that Dra. Eva has to remove. Some, like Grace and Betty White now live in the shelter gardens. Pirate was adopted by volunteer Brenda Gill and is a happy and playful house cat who now lives in both California and Vallarta! Nestor found his Forever Home with Catherine Goglia (who started out as his foster mama). Our most recent was Penny who is also being fostered by Catherine. Penny has already had one eye removed and is probably going to lose the other so she will be completely blind. Catherine reports:

“Penny is the bravest, sweetest, playful kitten and today she got to explore and meet the other cats. She was just so chill and so were the other cats. No one cared that she is a bit different.” It takes a special person to welcome a kitty like Penny into their home and we all hope that special person will reach out to us! You can contact Linda at adopt(at)purrproject.com for more information about how to adopt Penny or any of our kitties.

SPAY & NEUTER

We all benefit! PeaceAnimals reports that last year their Mobile Clinic sterilized 8,095 cats and dogs for FREE in the Banderas Bay area. Colina and Cuale free clinics, along with state and municipal sponsored clinics, also helped reduce the number of unwanted kittens & puppies left to suffer. PuRR Project has a weekly visit from a vet whose job is to sterilize the many kittens abandoned there (265 last year!). We are committed that no shelter cat goes up for adoption until it has been spayed or neutered. You can meet our adoptable PuRR Project kitties any weekend at the PetCo Adoption Center!

FEATURED FELINE: MAMA CARMEN

Carmen was approximately one year old when she was abandoned at the PuRR shelter with her three babies and she was a good mama until they were old enough to be separated. She loves attention and has been to the PetCo Adoption Center but was always passed over for the younger kittens. She has not been released to live in the yard yet because we think that with her beautiful blue/green eyes and sweet temperament, Carmen would be a PuRR-fectly wonderful companion kitty. Contact Bama at adopt(at)purrproject.com for adoption information.

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!

We were surprised and extremely happy to receive a very generous donation from the estate of Rene Tunney of Toronto. According to her attorney, she and her husband were great cat lovers and left their entire estate to a variety of animal charities and PuRR Project USA was one! We also received more generous donations from Fred Marshall, Cherri Gilmore, Teri & Gray Levy and Karen Miller plus a donation from Hilary & Mike Nau as a gift for parents Jim & Catherine Shoemaker! Nice way to start 2024!

As always, we are grateful for those monthly donors who are so essential to our success: The McCullough Family Gift Fund, Gary Phillips, Sharon & Ken Rose, Joanne Bryla, Trisha Aljoe, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Catherine Goglia & Jim Shoemaker, Jerry Petrizzo, Heidi Benedict, Timothy Oleno, Larry Sherwood, Mary & Bob Fitzgerald, Robert Weed, David Flannery, Elizabeth Fuerherm, Janice North and Bobbie Foote.
