Mexico City, Mexico – The United Kingdom’s love affair with Mexico continues to blossom, with a significant surge in British tourists visiting the country in the first half of 2024. Puerto Vallarta, a favorite beach vacation destination, has emerged as a particular hotspot, benefiting greatly from this trend.
According to the federal Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), the United Kingdom has solidified its position as the fourth-largest source market for international tourists to Mexico, surpassing even the figures from 2018. From January to July, a remarkable 271,268 British tourists arrived in Mexico by air, contributing a substantial $321,432,000 USD to the country’s tourism revenue.
Mexico City, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and Mérida have proven to be the most popular destinations among British travelers. TUI Airways, British Airways, and Aeroméxico have been instrumental in facilitating this growth, operating a combined 1,776 flights between the United Kingdom and Mexico during the first seven months of 2024.
The Sectur attributed this success to strategic promotional efforts, such as participation in the World Travel Market (WTM). These initiatives involved engaging with key industry players, including tour operators, airlines, travel agency associations, and media outlets, to highlight Mexico’s diverse tourism offerings.
The Mexican government’s commitment to enhancing air connectivity and investing in tourism infrastructure has also played a crucial role in attracting British visitors. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) has provided invaluable support, with the Mexican ambassador to the United Kingdom actively promoting the country’s tourism potential.
As Mexico continues to captivate British travelers with its rich culture, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality, the future looks bright for the country’s tourism industry.
