Vallarta Pride and City Government Unite for Inclusion & Diversity

Puerto Vallarta has taken a giant leap forward in promoting diversity and inclusion by formalizing an alliance with the organizers of Vallarta Pride. This partnership marks the first time the municipal government has officially joined forces with the festival, reinforcing collaboration between authorities, private initiatives, and the community to enhance one of Mexico’s most significant multicultural events.

A key meeting solidified this alliance, attended by Mayor Luis Munguía, Vallarta Pride Organizing Committee President Javier Jiménez, Director of Operations Alfredo Soria, Public Relations Director Carlos Plascencia, Deputy Director of Business and Service Relations Luis Tello, and Councilwoman Melissa Madero, who leads the Tourism Services and Visitor Relations Committee.

Councilwoman Madero, a driving force behind this collaboration, emphasized its impact on both social inclusion and economic growth. “Supporting Vallarta Pride is a recognition of diversity and a commitment to the economic and tourism growth of Puerto Vallarta. It’s not just a celebratory festival, but a platform for activism, education, and inclusion,” she stated.

She also expressed gratitude to Mayor Munguía for his role in securing this partnership, which will see the government actively participate in Vallarta Pride 2025. A special committee will soon be formed to ensure the event’s continued success and expansion. Additionally, she acknowledged the contributions of entrepreneurs Javier Jiménez and Vidal Meza, along with the many businesses and organizations that have supported the festival over the years.

Vallarta Pride 2025 is set to take place from May 17 to 25 under the theme “The Future Has No Gender,” featuring over 20 events focused on culture, health, education, politics, sports, and community engagement. Most activities will be free, with exceptions for select sporting events, special dinners, and optional donations.

Now in its twelfth edition, Vallarta Pride is expected to draw more than 40,000 visitors, further establishing Puerto Vallarta as a premier destination for LGBT+ tourism. In 2023, this sector accounted for 40% of the city’s tourism GDP, generating an economic impact of over 17 billion pesos. The festival benefits not only LGBT+ businesses but also the broader local economy, including hotels, tour operators, restaurants, small businesses and vendors.

While Vallarta Pride will continue to be primarily funded by private initiatives, government financial support will come solely from the tourism, culture, and events budget, ensuring no other municipal resources are impacted. “It’s an investment with a clear cost-benefit ratio that positively impacts our entire community,” Madero affirmed.

This historic alliance solidifies Puerto Vallarta’s dedication to inclusivity and economic development, positioning Vallarta Pride as a leading international event for diversity and equality.
