Puerto Vallarta’s Historic Center is seeing a refreshed look following the completion of the Enchulemos Jalisco program, which delivered façade improvements to 363 buildings across one of the city’s most recognized areas.
Municipal and state authorities, joined by members of civil society, recently toured the district to review the results of the initiative. The project, carried out through a partnership between the Jalisco State Government and the municipal administration led by Mayor Luis Munguía, focused on restoring the visual appeal of the area while preserving its architectural character.
By combining careful restoration with fresh paint and coordinated design efforts, the program enhances the charm of the Historic Center and helps maintain its status as a welcoming destination for both residents and visitors.
Mayor Munguía emphasized that these improvements are part of a broader strategy to care for the Historic Center, protect its identity, and strengthen its importance as a cultural and social hub. During the walkthrough, officials visited several streets and spoke directly with residents and property owners to better understand the project’s impact.
State representatives also highlighted the program’s reach. Alejandro Hermosillo, Undersecretary of Social Assistance for Jalisco, noted that the initiative has directly benefited more than 7,700 people. Gabriel Altamirano Hernández, advisor to the Corazón Urbano Foundation, credited strong community participation as a key factor in making the project possible.
Local leaders welcomed the changes. Jesús Palacio Bernal, president of the Citizen Council of the Historic Center and the Union of Urban Property Owners, described the improvements as an important first step in ongoing efforts to enhance the area, adding that residents take pride in the renewed surroundings.
Through projects like this, local and state governments continue to work alongside the community to improve public spaces and preserve the character that defines Puerto Vallarta’s Historic Center.
