ISLANDS IN THE STREAM
Opening Night – January 3 – 7:00 PM
“Islands in the Stream” is a dazzling and hilariously campy tribute to the classic TV variety shows of yesteryear, starring the dashing and talented husbands Brent Barrett and Bernie Blanks. Barrett, who just entertained us in a fabulous Christmas show, is a celebrated American actor and tenor and is renowned for his stellar performances on stage and screen. He’s a world-class soloist, having performed with symphony orchestras, opera houses, and in concert halls around the globe, from Carnegie Hall to international stages. He’s also starred on Broadway and is most well-known for his portrayal of Billy Flynn in Broadway’s Chicago.
Bernie Blanks brings his own sparkle to the duo, having conquered stages from Tokyo to Vienna, and Sydney to Berlin, with standout roles in musicals, including A Chorus Line, Evita, Grease, Starlight Express, and Camelot. He is also an accomplished gymnast, a three-time State Champion of Virginia, and a dedicated nurse practitioner.
The pair first met and fell in love while performing in Camelot in New York, with Brent as King Arthur and Bernie as a dashing knight. Sparks flew, and the two have been madly in love ever since. In their collaboration of Islands in the Stream, they channel the spirit of variety shows like The Sonny & Cher Show, The Donny & Marie Osmond Show, The Carol Burnett Show, and even the quirky Shields & Yarnell Show, in a uniquely wild, kitschy, and fabulously queer musical extravaganza. With the cheeky tagline, “Two white boys singing very white music!” Brent and Bernie infuse their love story into a vibrant, nostalgic, and unapologetically gay celebration of the shows that inspired them to pursue their dreams. It’s a night of laughter, love, and over-the-top performances that you won’t want to miss!
