Airport Expansion & New Highway Expected to Boost Nayarit Tourism

Tepic, Nayarit – With the expansion of the Tepic airport and a new highway that will go directly to some of the state’s most popular tourist destinations – including San Blas, Guayabitos, Sayulita, San Pancho and Punta Mita – on the horizon, tourism to the State of Nayarit is expected to increase significantly over the next 5 years.

In fact, Nayarit is projected to be one of the fastest growing states in the country, thanks to the capital city’s new international air terminal, which is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2024, and the highway that will reduce travel time between the airport and the municipality of Bahía de Banderas to just an hour and a half.

The governor of Nayarit, Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero, said that the works at the Tepic airport and the road infrastructure respond to “an entire tourism development plan”.

He reported that the Tepic International Airport is at a very advanced stage in the remodeling and expansion works of the air terminal, which will be characterized by its world-class infrastructure and include a new and modern terminal building for passenger comfort, an expansion of the runway, a commercial platform and new access roads.

“It is with an investment of more than 3 billion pesos that this high-level infrastructure project will consolidate Nayarit as the home of one of the best international airports in the country,” the governor said.

He went on to say that the growth of tourism in the Riviera Nayarit will exceed expectations thanks to the airport expansion and the construction of the new highway. “This highway will cover the entire beautiful Mexican Pacific coast, where the fastest growing tourist attractions in the country are located,” he added.
