Tala, Jalisco, Mexico – Produce Lovers, a Mexican grower and distributor, recently celebrated the grand opening of its blueberry facility in Tala, Jalisco, Mexico.
The facility, with almost 10,000 square feet of space, is to exclusively sort, pack, store and distribute blueberries, under the company’s Berry Lovers brand.
The blueberry facility has a sorter-grader from BBC Technologies, a Tomra company that specializes in equipment for handling small fruit.
The company ships blueberries grown in Jalisco to the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia, according to a news release. Blackberries from Michoacan, Mexico, are also marketed under the Berry Lovers label.
Produce lovers, which also grows and ships bell peppers from Jalisco and limes from Veracruz, has 425 acres of conventional blueberries and 25 acres of organic blueberries.
The company expects to harvest 3.5 million pounds of the berries this season. That includes Jupiter and Atlas varieties, according to the release.
The berries are marketed under the Berry Lovers label, and sold in the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom and Japan, with an eye on expansion to continental Europe.
