Casa Liang Won Me Over with Cantonese Cuisine

Casa Liang Won Me Over with Cantonese Cuisine

Puerto Vallarta’s dining scene continues to raise the bar, and one of its newest culinary gems is proving that authentic Chinese cuisine can be every bit as memorable as the city’s celebrated Mexican flavors.

Located in Versalles, Casa Liang is more than just another Chinese restaurant. It is the continuation of a family legacy that began more than 30 years ago in Sinaloa before making its way to Puerto Vallarta. Today, owner Diego proudly carries that tradition forward alongside his father-in-law, Mr. Liang, the restaurant’s head chef. With his Chinese heritage and decades of culinary experience, Mr. Liang brings authentic Cantonese flavors and techniques to every dish that leaves the kitchen.

From the moment you walk inside, one feature immediately stands out: the open kitchen. Instead of hiding the cooking behind closed doors, guests are invited to watch the chefs skillfully work the woks, preparing each dish with confidence and precision. That transparency adds another level of trust and appreciation, allowing diners to see the care that goes into every meal.

One of the biggest surprises on the menu is the extensive selection of gluten-free options. Finding authentic Asian cuisine that accommodates gluten sensitivities without sacrificing flavor can be challenging, but Casa Liang has managed to do exactly that. Whether you avoid gluten by necessity or by choice, you’ll discover delicious dishes that are every bit as satisfying as their traditional counterparts.

My personal favorite was the gluten-free Beef Chao Fan. These silky, wide rice noodles are perfectly cooked and tossed with tender beef and fresh ingredients in a rich, savory sauce that keeps you coming back for another bite. If you want an insider’s tip, ask for it half Chinese sausage and half beef. The combination adds another layer of flavor and has quickly become my favorite way to order it.

Another thing that impressed me was the value. In a city filled with incredible restaurants, Casa Liang stands out for offering generous portions of exceptionally high-quality food at surprisingly affordable prices. It’s the kind of place where you leave feeling like you received far more than what you paid for.

Of course, exceptional food deserves exceptional service, and Casa Liang delivers there as well.

During our visit we were greeted by not one, but two servers named Victor. While sharing the same name may be a coincidence, their commitment to hospitality certainly wasn’t. Both Victors made us feel genuinely welcome, but the taller Victor had us laughing throughout the evening. His personality, humor, and attentiveness transformed dinner into an experience that felt more like being welcomed into a family’s home than dining at a restaurant.

As we enjoyed our meal, I couldn’t help but overhear a conversation from a European gentleman seated nearby. As he talked with his companions, I heard him describe the food as “world-class.” High praise from someone who has likely dined all over the world, and after experiencing Casa Liang myself, I couldn’t agree more.

Puerto Vallarta has become one of Mexico’s great culinary destinations because it embraces flavors from around the world while celebrating authenticity. Casa Liang is a wonderful example of that philosophy. Combining a rich family heritage, an experienced chef, outstanding hospitality, thoughtful gluten-free offerings, incredible value, and beautifully prepared Cantonese cuisine, it has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in the city.

One final piece of advice: learn from my mistake and don’t plan your visit on a Tuesday! I made the heartbreaking discovery that Tuesdays are their one day closed. Trust me, pulling up excited for a plate of that incredible Beef Chao Fan only to find the doors locked is a special kind of disappointment. Save yourself the heartbreak, visit any other day, and enjoy all the yumminess Casa Liang has to offer. I know I’ll be back… just not on a Tuesday!

Have a Healthy day!
