Mexico Awarded 108 Blue Flags for the 2023-2024 Season

Mexico now has 108 locations that can fly the Blue Flag environmental designation, putting the country in first place on the American continent and among the top 10 in the world for the most beaches, marinas and boats that qualified for the 2023-2024 season. Six of these Blue Flag certifications were awarded to beaches in Puerto Vallarta.

Vaquita Sightings on International Expedition Inspire Hope

Against all odds, Mexico’s endangered vaquita porpoises are holding on in their habitat in the Gulf of California, according to a new research expedition report released Wednesday. Experts on the expedition, which took place May 10-26, estimate they saw from 10 to 13 of the tiny, shy, elusive porpoises during nearly two weeks of sailing.

Jalisco Continues to Lead Job Creation in the Country

With 1,363 formal jobs registered with the Mexican Social Security Institute in May, a total of 41,603 new jobs were created in Jalisco in the first 5 months of 2023. This figure is the highest recorded since 1997 for this period, and places the state in second place nationally for job creation year to date.

GAP: May 2023 Passenger Traffic Up 10.1% at 12 Mexican Airports

For May 2023, the total number of terminal passengers at GAP’s 12 Mexican airports increased by 10.1%, compared to the same period in 2022. Guadalajara, Tijuana, Los Cabos, and Puerto Vallarta presented an increase in passenger traffic of 16.1%, 7.3%, 5.2%, and 1.0% respectively, compared to May 2022.

Volaris Announces Forty New Domestic Routes in Mexico

Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier Volaris has announced 40 new domestic routes. These new services are primarily point-to-point, increasing regional connectivity across the country. The new routes will start operating on July 10, with a special promotional price.
