Covid Vaccination Campaign Intensifies in Puerto Vallarta

April 20 Update: People over 60 years of age can get a second booster shot (fourth dose in the case of an initial 2-dose schedule) at all of the venues listed below. Do not forget to bring identification, a new copy of vaccination registration, which can be downloaded from the federal page mivacuna.salud.gob.mx, your vaccination certificate, and proof the third dose was administered at least 4 months ago.

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The head of the Eighth Health Region, Dr. Jaime Álvarez Zayas, on Monday announced that 40,000 doses of AstraZeneca will be available at various health centers, hospitals and other locations in and around Puerto Vallarta, through April 30.

Everyone of legal age (18+) that has not yet been vaccinated, or is in need of a second dose or booster shot, is invited to participate in the AstraZeneca vaccination campaigns that the Municipal Government has organized in coordination with the state and federal governments. Just go to the modules at Plaza Pitillal, Lázaro Cárdenas Park and the Central Bus Station, from 9 am to 6 pm throughout the month of April and get vaccinated!

No matter which dose you require, registration on the federal website is required.

For the second dose, proof of your first vaccine(s) is also required, while for third dose, it will be necessary to bring your vaccination certificate, which shows that the second dose was administered at least 4 months ago.

Vaccines are also available at the Naval Hospital facilities, the IMSS 170 and 179 clinics, as well as the ISSSTE clinic. Other venues that will have medical staff ready to administer vaccines will be in Cabo Corrientes, San Sebastián, Mascota, Talpa de Allende and Tomatlán.

According to the Jalisco Secretary of Health (SSJ), from 2021 to date, 524,882 doses have been applied in the different vaccination clinics in Puerto Vallarta (2021: 20,766 Pfizer, 90,320 AstraZeneca, 599 Cansino, 5,208 Moderna and 4,572 Sinovac. In 2022, 45,391 Pfizer, 200,240 AstraZeneca, 11,787 Cansino, and 145,999 Sinovac shots have been given. The biological from AstraZeneca predominates as the most applied in the region.

The pandemic is still active so, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the SSJ asks everyone to follow these recommendations:

• Keep a safe distance from other people (at least 1 meter), even if they don’t look sick
• Wear a mask in public, especially indoors or when physical distancing is not possible.
• Choose open spaces with good ventilation over closed spaces. If you’re indoors, open a window.
• Wash your hands frequently. Use soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
• Get vaccinated when it’s your turn. Follow the vaccination guidelines of your local authorities.
• When you cough or sneeze, cover your nose and mouth with a bent elbow or a tissue.
• If you’re not feeling well, stay home.
