Puerto Vallarta is ready to welcome thousands of visitors for Semana Santa and Pascua (Holy Week and Easter Week), with hotel occupancy expected to reach an impressive 82.7%, according to Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism (Sectur). This places Puerto Vallarta among the top five destinations in the country for holiday travel.
Sectur’s forecast shows that Puerto Vallarta trails just behind Nuevo Nayarit, Riviera Maya, Cancun, and Los Cabos in hotel occupancy. Nuevo Nayarit leads the list with an expected 88.3% occupancy rate, followed by Riviera Maya at 87.1%, Cancun at 84.0%, and Los Cabos at 83.2%.
Nationally, more than 14.7 million tourists are expected to travel throughout Mexico between April 12 and April 26, 2025 – a 2.1% increase over the same holiday period in 2024. Puerto Vallarta’s popularity reflects this growth, as travelers continue to choose the destination for its beautiful beaches, warm hospitality, and memorable experiences.
Tourism spending across Mexico is also expected to see a healthy boost. Sectur projects total tourism revenue will reach 282 billion pesos, a 4.4% increase compared to last year. Income from lodging alone is anticipated to total over 15.7 billion pesos.
Of the 6.57 million tourists expected to stay in hotels, nearly 74% will be domestic travelers, with international visitors making up the remaining 26%. Many more will choose vacation rentals, second homes, or stay with family and friends, adding to the lively atmosphere in popular destinations throughout the country.
These encouraging numbers confirm Vallarta’s continued appeal as one of Mexico’s most welcoming coastal destinations, promising a holiday season full of energy, excitement, and unforgettable moments for visitors and locals alike.
