Government of Profe Michel Launches ‘Transforming Families’ Program

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – For the municipal government of Professor Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez improving the quality of life for the most vulnerable families in Puerto Vallarta is a priority. This is why on Tuesday he launched the ‘Transforming Families’ program, which consists of the delivery of baskets of basic foods [despensas] that provide better nutrition, in addition to information about following a healthy diet.

By leading this first delivery to more than 300 households, Profe Michel affirmed that his government is working under the principles of the 4th Transformation promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which is based on caring for people who need it most. “And, above all,” he said, “those vulnerable sectors that for years were not taken into account by previous administrations, which is achieved through programs like this one that provide social justice to forgotten homes.”

The foregoing adds to other positive actions implemented by this City Council and the federal government for the well-being of all, such as the recent announcement made by the President of Mexico about the increase in the pension for the Elderly by 2024. “They currently receive 4,800 pesos and next year the pension for the elderly will rise by 25 percent, so from January they will receive 6,000 pesos. In this way, since he took office, our president has thought about the class that has never been considered… the people who worked all their lives, yet had never been seen,” the mayor said.

For its part, the municipality has been concerned with contributing to the development of families, by reinforcing security, for example, with the recent delivery of more patrol vehicles, which in total add up to 101 totally new and equipped units for the peace of mind of all of us who live here. And, for those who visit us, to ensure that Puerto Vallarta continues to be the number one destination at the state level in terms of security.

Likewise, the mayor assured that attention to the neighborhoods has not been neglected, which is why a large number of public works, such as repairs to streets, sidewalks, and public lighting, continue to be carried out, without indebting the municipality, and also paying the debts left by previous governments.

Professor Michel also announced that 10 new garbage collection trucks have already been purchased, which will be put into operation in the coming days.

“This took a while because there was no production of vehicles or trucks, but now they have already been delivered to us and, you know what, they were purchased without asking for bank credit. That is precisely due to a good administration of city resources. Those trucks and that those 101 Police vehicles were funded by the tax money that all of us pay. There were no bank loans, they have already been paid for, and there are also resources for the streets. This is the way in which we are going to continue working for the good of all,” he emphasized.

Regarding the ‘Transforming Families’ program, the director of Social Development, Adriana Paola Paniagua Peña, explained that under this scheme a total of 8,000 food pantries will be delivered in different stages to 2,000 beneficiaries. A call to be part of this program was made at the end of last year, which resulted in a positive response. In this effort, we work with the Mexican Food Safety Agency (SEGALMEX).

The official pointed out that given the number of people who registered in the call, all those beneficiaries who can no longer be contacted due to a change of address, telephone number or other situation, will be replaced by new beneficiaries who will enter a socioeconomic study process so that the support really reaches those who need it.

At the start of this program, more than 300 pantries were delivered to families living in the Mojoneras, Laguna del Valle, Aurora, Portales, Floresta, Joyas del Pedregal, Pitillal and Guadalupe Victoria neighborhoods.

In addition, to give transparency to this scheme, there is a Social Programs Oversight Committee, made up of citizens who verify that this benefit reaches the people of Vallarta, which is made up of Rosa Delia García Chávez, María Concepción García Gómez, María Cristina Gómez Alejandro, Olga Lidia Navarrete González and Celia Rosales Cisneros.
