Isolation Measures Stand in Jalisco

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – The detection of 322 new COVID-19 cases and the death of 16 people in a single day are an indicator that people are relaxing the isolation measures, and that could put the coronavirus pandemic out of control in the entity, Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez said yesterday.

At the same time, he asked that citizens who do not have to go out, to stay at home. “Let’s help those who have to go outside, those who really need to go out to work.”

“June 2 was the worst day of the pandemic to date, with 322 infections and 16 deaths, it was the highest number of instances in a single day during this health crisis. Previously, the most deaths we had in one day was 9, unfortunately, on Tuesday there were 16. It is very important that everyone understands that this is a result of what society stopped doing over the last 15 days. These infections were not generated yesterday, nor were they generated on June 1, they were generated 15 days ago when isolation measures were loosened, when people believed that they could go out on the street with no consequences, if we do not understand this, the risk that Jalisco has is very high,” he explained.

Meeting with the state health cabinet and through a message broadcast Wednesday morning on his social networks, the governor explained that the implementation of the Jalisco Plan for Economic Reactivation, as well as the certification of businesses to start operating with restrictions, once certified in the implementation of their health protocols, should not be a reason for people to take it as an invitation to go out onto the streets as if nothing will happen.

“We need the people to do their part, the government has not slowed down, the government is working every day, they are focused on their work, but unfortunately our society, the people of Jalisco, are loosening the isolation measures. We are in time to correct, a time to resume the course we were taking. That is why I want to express to you that what this phase of gradual reactivation of our economy does not imply taking to the streets as usual. What we want, and what we are doing, is to allow the people who have or need to work to do so, but let’s not confuse this intention with the idea that everything has returned to normal,” he emphasized.

Alfaro Ramírez went on to say that, due to the indicators over the last few days, the actions that have been implemented to date will be evaluated and adjustments will be made to the Hospital Reconversion Plan and the Epidemiological Surveillance and Follow-up Model.

There will also be meetings with municipal presidents in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area in order to better manage mobility flows on the streets.

“I ask for your understanding, for you to comprehend that the risk [of the virus spreading] in Jalisco and in Mexico is increasing; I need everyone to understand that we are in a moment of risk, and that we need everyone to join together to get through it,” Governor Alfaro Ramírez concluded.
