Jalisco Allocates 7.9 MDP for Viveros in 42 Municipalities

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – With the aim of facilitating environmental balance and generating alternatives for food production, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER Jalisco) will spend $7,946,000 pesos this year to support 42 municipalities in the establishment or improvement of ‘Viveros’ (greenhouses and nurseries).

Last week’s announcement of this support scheme was presided over by the head of the state agency, Ana Lucia Camacho Sevilla, who said that it is part of the Field Action Program for Climate Change, in the component called ‘Nurseries for Development.’

The state official explained that this project has the task of supporting the municipalities with the creation or improvement of municipal nurseries, through resources for infrastructure and equipment, sustainable production systems of woody, fruit or fodder vegetative material. This in search of ecological balance and food security, in addition to promoting the conservation of the state’s biodiversity.

This program promotes crop biodiversity and sustainable agriculture to help mitigate land degradation and habitat destruction.

An antecedent in this context was in 2020, when the state secretariat, through the General Directorate of Agricultural Development and Sustainability, implemented the 2020 Natural Resources Conservation Support program, through which 10 million pesos were invested in 68 projects, with the aim of conserving essential natural resources to continue with the productive leadership in the state.

THE DATA

This support includes the following concepts:

• Construction of forest reproduction beds.

• Purchase of seedlings or containers for plant propagation.

• Piping, irrigation system (sprinkler, drip, etc.) and pumping equipment.

• Rooters, substrate and green label supplies.

• Materials for construction of micro-tunnels (frames, shade mesh and plastics).

The support will be 100% and up to 189,000.00 per municipality.
