Jalisco Generates 9 Out of Every 100 Jobs in Mexico

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – Jalisco is proving to be a significant job generator in the country. From January to July 2023, companies have opened up 48,184 new job opportunities in the region. This places the state as the second-highest contributor to job growth nationwide during this time.

Compared to the previous year, there has been a noticeable increase in job creation. The number of jobs has risen from 46,518 in the same period from January to July 2022 to 48,184 in 2023. This translates to a cumulative increase of 2.49%, according to data from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

“Jalisco continues to show significant leadership in the country’s job generation. In 2023, 48,184 jobs have been created, placing us in the second national position. This reflects the strong efforts of the private sector, education, and, of course, the government in creating job opportunities, attracting investment, promoting international trade, and developing different municipalities in the region. The Department of Economic Development will keep working to generate opportunities for businesses and further enhance opportunities for workers and the business sector to create more and better jobs,” shared Roberto Arechederra, head of the Secretariat of Economic Development (SEDECO) of the Government of Jalisco.

During this period, Jalisco has contributed 9% of the 512,243 new jobs created across the country. This means that for every 100 new jobs in Mexico, 9 have been generated in Jalisco.

The state’s consistent leadership in monthly and semi-annual job generation throughout the current administration’s six-year term serves as a testament to its success.

From December 2018 to the present, Jalisco stands as the second-highest job creator in the country, having generated a total of 189,110 formal job positions. This puts the state just behind Nuevo León, which has created 199,516 new jobs. Meanwhile, Mexico City holds the lowest position with a loss of -51,366 job positions.

In the seventh month of this year, 356 formal jobs were generated in Jalisco. This is a significant increase compared to July 2022, when -238 jobs were lost.

On a national scale, the same month witnessed a decline of -2,168 job positions.

In 2022, Jalisco led the nation in job creation, adding an impressive 82,963 new job positions. This achievement outpaced Mexico City, the State of Mexico, and Nuevo León.
