Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – At a press conference on Wednesday morning, Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez confirmed that, given the rise in Covid infections and active cases in the State, the newly redesigned ’emergency button’ will be activated this Friday, October 30, 2020.
“In accordance with the increase in the risk indicators, which yesterday registered 904 new cases of coronavirus, it is time to put a brake on the pace and growth of contagions,” the Governor said.
“After several work sessions, the health committee determined that, for the moment, it is not necessary to stop all economic activity, but to slow down the ones that correspond mainly to the age groups that are currently being infected. Therefore, to stop the chain of infections, beginning this Friday, October 30, restrictions will be placed on night time and weekend activities for 14 days. During the day, we will continue with normal activities but seriously complying with the established health protocols,” Alfaro explained.
In most of the state, the suspension of non-essential activities will be from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am Monday through Thursday, and on weekends, all economic, cultural, social, recreational, sports, and religious activities will be suspended from Friday at 7:00 pm until Monday morning at 6:00 am.
But here in Puerto Vallarta, where 90% of economic activities depend on tourism and 65% of their income is generated on weekends, the restrictions and schedules are more lenient.
Closings in Puerto Vallarta will be from 8:30 pm to 6:00 am 7 days a week, starting at 8:30 pm on Friday, October 30 and ending at 6:00 am on Friday, November 13.
This includes restaurants, bars, transportation, and all services considered as non-essential. However, restaurants will be allowed to offer carryout service after 8:30 pm, and food delivery platforms can continue operating to this end.
Public transportation and digital platform car services will also be restricted. Bus service will end at 9:00 pm every day, and ride share services can only operate from 5:30 am to 8:00 pm. Taxis may operate normally as long as they comply with health protocols.
Restrictions will also affect Puerto Vallarta beaches, which will only be open for 10 hours each day (Monday-Sunday) – from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Activities that can continue to operate normally include:
• All private or public hospital services and medical teams
• Pharmacies, clinics, laboratories and veterinarians
• Convenience stores
• Industry and its logistics operation
• Public and private security services
• Aid and civil protection teams
• Basic energy, water and telecommunications services, public and private
• Postal, parcel and courier service
• Gas stations
• Insurance company adjusters
• Hotels, with no activity in common areas
• Funeral services
• Airports and bus terminals with the respective commercial restrictions
The following activities must suspend operations during the restricted hours:
• Economic, commercial and service activities, with the exception of industry and hotels
• Miscellaneous shops, such as stationery stores, hardware and haberdashery stores
• Mechanical workshops, auto parts stores and any technical service
• Grocery stores, shopping centers and commercial corridors
• Public markets and tianguis
• Cultural, recreational and sports activities
• Sports units and parks
• Religious activities and ceremonies
• Meetings of more than 10 people
• Private social events
Note: In both cases, home delivery is allowed on nights and weekends.
After the activation of the Emergency Button and the passage of 14 days of suspensions, the Board of Health will determine the validity of the measures or their modification according to the epidemiological panorama.
