Jalisco Remains National Leader in Generation of Formal Jobs

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – Jalisco continues to maintain its status as the national leader in generating formal job opportunities. This achievement is attributed to the collaborative efforts between government secretariats forming the General Strategic Coordination of Economic Growth and Development (CGECyDE) and the private sector.

The state’s consistent leadership in monthly and semi-annual job generation throughout the six-year term serves as a testament to its success.

According to data from the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) covering the period from December 2018 to June 2023, Jalisco has registered an impressive 188,754 formal jobs. This places the state in the second position nationwide, closely behind Nuevo León, which boasts 192,566 jobs. Mexico City, unfortunately, lags behind with a negative figure of -53,460 jobs.

In June alone, Jalisco created 6,225 new jobs, contributing significantly to the national total of 24,398 new job openings. In other words, out of every 100 new job openings, 26 were generated in Jalisco. These figures establish Jalisco as the second-highest formal job generator in Mexico.

Roberto Arechederra Pacheco, the head of the Secretariat for Economic Development (SEDECO), emphasized the vibrant job growth in Jalisco, attributing it to the confidence of business owners and the collaborative efforts of academia, private enterprises, and the government. In June 2023, a remarkable 1,980,790 workers were registered, resulting in the creation of 6,225 formal jobs.

During the first half of 2023, a total of 47,828 new jobs were generated, representing the second-highest figure for a first semester since 1997. The highest number of new jobs recorded in a first semester occurred in 2017 with 48,344. It is worth noting that there has been an increase in job generation compared to the first semester of 2022 when 46,756 new jobs were added.

In 2022, Jalisco emerged as the national leader in employment generation, recording an impressive 82,963 new formal jobs, surpassing both Mexico City and Nuevo León.
