Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – During the month of May, Jalisco generated 4,723 jobs, bringing the total number of jobs created during the economic reactivation period of August 2020 to May 2021 to 72,972, and positioning the state as the second largest generator of formal employment in the country.

After more than a year of pandemic, the outlook for Jalisco remains positive. May marked the fifth consecutive month of employment growth and brings the total number of new jobs created so far in 2021 to 35,240.

This represents an accumulated variation of 1.98% with respect to the end of 2020, and with respect to the same period of the previous year, the state demonstrates a significant recovery, going from -42,375 jobs in the first five months of 2020, to 35,240 jobs in the same period of 2021.

The head of the Ministry of Economic Development (SEDECO), Ernesto Sanchez Proal, pointed out that the boost that the Government of Jalisco has provided to the productive sector to address the crisis of the pandemic, together with the continuity of SEDECO’s strategic economic development projects, have made Jalisco’s economy remain solid today.

“These employment figures show that the strategy that is being followed by the Government of Jalisco for economic reactivation and long-term economic development – taking advantage of internal and external factors, such as the relocation of productive chains to promote it, have made our economy more resilient and increasingly dynamic,” shared the Secretary of Economic Development.

The figure of 4,723 jobs generated during the month of May represents a monthly variation of 0.26%, and evidences a significant recovery compared to May 2020, when 23,471 jobs were lost due to the pandemic.
