January 2024 News from PuRR Project Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter just north of Puerto Vallarta that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

SHELTER UPDATE

The many PuRR felines depend on us to care for them 7 days a week, 365 days a year! There is no time off in a sanctuary like ours. Cats have to be fed twice a day, water bowls refilled, litter boxes cleaned, casitas mopped out and the grounds raked up, and medicines administered.

So we are extremely grateful to our staff, our vets and especially our volunteers who give up personal time to make a lot of kitties happy every week!

It was another busy 2023 at the shelter with just over 250 felines, mostly kittens, that we either accepted or just found abandoned on the property. Our vet and volunteers took it in stride and found names for all of them! Then they were bathed, tested, wormed, vaccinated and finally spayed or neutered. Our nursery casitas were always full.

ADOPTIONS

Unfortunately, adoptions will never be able to keep us with the number of new kittens at the shelter. But we are thankful for our relationship with PetCo that allows us to bring healthy, vaccinated and spayed or neutered kittens and young cats (and dogs) to their Adoption Center every Saturday and Sunday. 91 lucky kittens found their Forever Family there in 2023. Plus we had 13 adoptions at the shelter and 15 through our volunteers and foster families! So please consider us when you are ready for your next best Furry Friend.

UPCOMING EVENTS

KITTY BINGO: We are back at Nacho Daddy on Basilio Badillo in Old Town at 4:00 every other Wednesday. It’s a really fun way to spend a couple of hours while winning prizes and supporting the shelter cats. We also have a 50/55 cash Raffle. January games will be on the 3rd, 17th and 31st so grab a friend and come on down!

SATURDAY MARKET: We are just outside Daiquiri Dick’s across from the Olas Altas Market from 10:00 to 1:00 every Saturday. You can find a variety of styles and colors of our logo T-shirt and tank tops plus caps, coffee cups, drink holders and Kitty dish towels that make great gifts for yourself or a friend.

VIRTUAL ADOPTIONS

If you are not physically able to adopt a PuRR cat but would like to help, please consider a “Virtual Adoption”. You can go to our website and scroll down to see photos of the candidates to choose from. There’s also a PayPal button or information on where to send a check for the $120 if you prefer. It’s also a GREAT special occasion gift for a cat-loving family member or friend.

We had to take “GRIS” off the list recently when volunteer Shanti Doelger decided it was time for that sweet kitty to come home to live with her and husband Bob! So she has a new name, Gracie, and finally, a Forever Home along with “Joseph” and “Xena”.

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!

We want to thank Lee & Heidi Mathias for their years of support and a generous donation after their visit in December. Thanks to Terri and Gray Levi, Joanne Carter, Anne Middleton and Anne Selby for their donations. Thanks to Troy Valens of Sea Monkey, as well as volunteers who have donated prizes for Kitty BINGO, and the many kind people whose donations made the Garage Sale successful.

And of course our gratitude to our monthly donors: Gary Phillips, McCullough Family Gift Fund, Sharon & Ken Rose, Catherine Goglia & Jim Shoemaker, Trisha Aljoe, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Heidi Benedict, Robert Weed, Larry Sherwood, Timothy Oleno, David Flannery, Janice North and Elizabeth Fuerherm.
