January 2025 News from PuRR Project Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter just north of Puerto Vallarta that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

SHELTER UPDATE

The shelter is looking good with all the hard work from Jose & Hilda and our devoted weekly volunteers. Last year we took in 260 cats, mostly young kittens, and 99% were just abandoned at the shelter. Our expenses were $1,850,000 pesos including food, medicine, salaries, vet care, litter, cleaning supplies, utilities, and general maintenance. We took in $400,000 from Adoptions, Market Sales, BINGO and the Garage Sale. The balance was from public donations. If you would like to make a contribution visit our website. And remember, we are a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit with Tax exempt receipts for US Dollar donations.

FEATURED FELINE: WILMA

Mama Wilma was left at the shelter last April with four tiny babies. We watched the family’s young children crying as the father left the box at the front gate and quickly drove away. Dra. Eva got them settled in a private casita and she was a good mama but none of her babies survived more than a few days. She is about 2 years old, very loving and would make a great companion! Contact Linda at adopt@purrproject.com for more information.

ADOPTIONS

Adoptions were very slow during the last couple of months with only 3 in November and 5 in December. We have the occasional adoption at the shelter but most are at the PetCo Adoption Center where we bring sterilized and vaccinated kitties every Saturday and Sunday.

Over 50 kittens are currently in the PuRR nurseries and hoping to find a loving Forever Home soon! So please consider stopping by PetCo in January to meet YOUR next furry companion.

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!

The kitties want to send a big Muchas Gracias to Ana & Mike Green of Boardwalk Realty and to Anne Middleton for generous donations in December!

As always, we are grateful for those monthly donors who are so essential to our success: The McCullough Family Gift Fund, Gary Phillips, Sharon & Ken Rose, Terri & Gray Levy, Joanne Bryla, Trisha Aljoe, Catherine Goglia & Jim Shoemaker, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Karen & Walt Trolson, Jerry Petrizzo, Heidi Benedict, Timothy Oleno, Larry Sherwood, Mary & Bob Fitzgerald, Robert Weed, David Flannery, Elizabeth Fuerherm and Janice North.
