In a display of wisdom and grace, the participants of the “Senior Citizens Ambassador 2023” competition gracefully represented the elderly community from the “Casa de Día” program. This program, run by Puerto Vallarta’s Integral Family Development System (DIF), aims to support the well-being of seniors and foster a sense of belonging among them. The program is led by President María de Jesús López Delgado.
With Mayor Prof. Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez and the director of the assistance organization, Roberto Ramos Vázquez, in attendance, President María de Jesús López crowned Juana Santana Ruelas as the new Ambassador for Senior Citizens. Known affectionately as “Bella,” Santana also earned the title of “Ms. Congeniality.” Her life experience, charm, confidence, and unfaltering grace set her apart.
The competition took place at Teatro Vallarta, where eight accomplished women contended for the title as part of the 2023 Senior Citizens Week. In addition to showcasing their dancing and catwalk skills, contestants answered thought-provoking questions that shed light on society’s experiences with cancer.
President María de Jesús López expressed gratitude for the participants’ involvement and acknowledged the significant contributions seniors make to society. She reassured them that DIF is dedicated to improving their quality of life, addressing their needs, upholding their rights, and offering essential programs and services. She closed her speech by saying, “I’m truly honored to consider you part of the extended DIF family.”
Roberto Ramos praised the enthusiasm displayed by members of the over twenty-five senior citizen groups who engaged in these interactive activities. He also highlighted the steadfast support provided by the candidates’ children, grandchildren, and relatives. “Seeing the encouragement and motivation they receive warms our hearts. It’s time for us to give back the love, protection, and care they’ve given us,” he emphasized.
Amidst the jubilation of the audience, which included family, friends, and dignitaries, María Guadalupe Flores Fabián was named Deputy Ambassador. Margarita Montes Flores secured the title of “Most Popular Lady,” while María Micaela Salcedo Uribe received the title of “Most Photogenic Lady.”
Mayor Prof. Michel, in an uplifting speech, reaffirmed the municipal government’s support for senior citizens, acknowledging their substantial contributions in shaping a better community. He praised their enduring values and cited them as role models. He also restated the administration’s commitment to devising projects that enhance their well-being.
