Marigalante II Arrives in Puerto Vallarta After Long Voyage

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Marigalante II arrived in Banderas Bay at around 5:00 pm yesterday, completing a remarkable journey of more than a month from Cancún to Mexico’s Pacific coast after crossing the Panama Canal.

During more than twenty days at sea, the replica Spanish galleon sailed the Caribbean, crossed the Atlantic, and passed through the canal before entering Pacific waters. From there, it continued along the coasts of Chiapas and Oaxaca, then sailed north past Guerrero and Michoacán, later reaching Colima and Jalisco on its final approach to Puerto Vallarta.

The vessel was first spotted inside the bay on Sunday afternoon, sparking excitement among residents and visitors alike. It officially docked at Los Peines, which will serve as its new home and base of operations.

The Marigalante II replaces the original Marigalante, a beloved wooden galleon that sailed the bay for nearly 28 years before sinking near Camarones Beach on October 10. Built of steel, the new vessel is its direct successor and carries strong emotional meaning for the community, honoring a ship that became part of local history.

Port authorities have begun technical and administrative inspections to confirm the ship’s condition following its long voyage. Once cleared, the galleon may begin sailing along the Malecón, passing in front of Los Arcos as early as this evening. That inaugural sail is expected to include fireworks, symbolically announcing the ship’s arrival in Puerto Vallarta.

Plans also include a maritime ceremony near Camarones Beach, marking the arrival of the Marigalante II and paying tribute to the original vessel. Before launching regular tours during the final week of the year, the ship is expected to host a special open house, giving the public an early opportunity to step aboard and welcome the newest icon to Banderas Bay.
