May 2024 News from PuRR Project Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter just north of Puerto Vallarta that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

THE PURR NURSERY

We had 40 cats and kittens arrive at the shelter in April. Most were abandoned there during a crazy one-week period! It included 3 mamas with a total of 15 babies plus other kittens without a mama. Our resources and available space are strained to the limit right now. Just the record-keeping alone is a challenge! Between Dra. Eva and our great volunteers we have managed to cope and hopefully this “kitten season” will soon be over! PLEASE encourage people to get their pets spayed or neutered.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Saturday Market: The official end of the Olas Altas Saturday Market is May 11. So you only have May 4th and 11th to get one of our popular logo T-shirts, caps, drink holders, coffee mugs, cat dish towels and more! They make amazing gifts for yourself or your cat-loving friends and all proceeds go to the shelter cats. So stop by and say “Hello” to our volunteers. We’re just outside Daiquiri Dick’s on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Kitty Bingo: Our last Kitty BINGO for this season is scheduled for Wednesday, May 8. So please come down to Nacho Daddy and join us in supporting the 300+ shelter cats while you have some fun and maybe win one of our great prizes when you get a BINGO and shout”MEOW!” Cards go on sale at 3:00 pm and games start at 4:00. Cards are only $200 pesos for 8 games plus we have a 50/50 Raffle.

SHELTER UPDATE

We are always sad when we have to release into the yard some of the older kitties who were passed over for adoption. We don’t have much choice when we have so many new kittens that we have to make space for in the nursery casitas. Dra. Eva also released back into the shelter trees a female iguana that she had been treating at her home for the past month. But the shelter looks good and new volunteers are always amazed at what a happy place it is with so many cats (plus Rocky & Lalo) living in harmony.

ADOPTIONS

The majority of our adoptions are done on Saturday and Sunday at the PetCo Adoption Center. In April we not only had the most new kittens ever but we also had the fewest adoptions ever. They closed the center for painting one weekend which did not help. So Please consider us when it’s time to meet your next best furry friend! Hours are 10am-6pm on Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday.

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!

We’d like to thank Edward Schlauch for his generous donation and for all the litter boxes he cleaned this past season! And Danette Parker for all those “HANDMADE WITH LOVE” cat towels that were so popular at the market! Gracias to Malka Sekey and Kelley Blair for donations sent to PuRR Project USA, Inc.

And of course we couldn’t do it without our regular donors: Trisha Aljoe, Sharon & Ken Rose, Catherine Goglia & Jim Shoemaker, Terri & Gray Levy, McCullough Family Gift Fund, Joanne Bryla, Gary Phillips, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Robert Weed, Jerry Petrizzo, Heidi Benedict, Timothy Oleno, Larry Sherwood, Mary & Bob Fitzgerald, Elizabeth Fuerherm, Janice North and David Flannery.

If you would like to make a donation you can get all the information on our website.
