Puerto Vallarta Food Distribution Program Continues

Puerto Vallarta Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña reports that the fourth installment of the ‘Es por Vallarta’ food support program, which helps Puerto Vallarta families survive in these difficult times, is currently underway. The despensas contain beans, rice, lentils, oats, oil, tomato sauce, pasta, bleach and soap, so that families, especially the most vulnerable families and those that are now unemployed due to the closing of local businesses, can put food on their tables. These “care packages” are being dispensed over 4 days via an appointment system devised to keep crowds of people from gathering together in one place, and to ensure that they are delivered in a safe, orderly and organized manner. Distribution began Wednesday and Thursday at the 23 Centros de Apoyo Alimentario (Food Support Centers) located around the city, and will continue today, and again on Monday with the goal of benefitting another 10,000 Puerto Vallarta families in this fourth installment. In addition to the food program, 5 gallon jugs of water are provided free of charge through the Seapal Vallarta Aguamáticos (water dispensing systems).

In fact, the end of the pandemic, and the need for extreme precautions at home, could go until August, the undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion of the federal government, Hugo López-Gatell, warned on Tuesday. During his evening press conference, the official highlighted Jalisco and Nuevo León as the points in the country where activity should not be resumed or displacement should be increased. “They are just going to start with their epidemics. The output will be in the month of June, July, perhaps August,” he said. However, the State Government plans to maintain its “Phase 0” until June 1st, when the staggered reopening of businesses to reactivate the economy is scheduled to begin.
