Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – MiMi Bomba admits this week’s column came together with a little more difficulty than usual. Between a busy schedule and a lack of inspiration, she found herself searching for the right words to share. What emerged was not a collection of clever observations or big life lessons, but a sincere reflection on home, belonging, intuition, and the powerful connection she feels with Puerto Vallarta.
I almost missed the deadline for my column this week because I’ve been working more than usual. Actually, that’s not entirely true. The whole truth is I didn’t have any inspired ideas or pearls of wisdom to drop before you. So please, Amigos y Amigas, don’t expect too much from this column.
I have been contemplating – perhaps – moving back to the States to be closer to family, but when I think about it, I get a rock in my stomach. There is no place that I would rather spend the rest of my days – however many there are – than Mexico. Specifically, here in Puerto Vallarta.
My point is that it is important to listen to our feelings and our intuition. I feel safer here. Much safer. Nobody is shooting up schools and shopping centers and churches here. I think about that a lot. The U.S. needs to address the gun problem, but that never happens. Apparently, an outdated Constitutional amendment is more important than the lives of innocent children and vulnerable people. This is not a political observation. There have been many administrations that have ignored the gun problem in the United States.
There is nothing clever or funny about this column, but I’m afraid it might be all I’ve got right now. I’ll try a couple of jokes to lighten the day. Here we go.
I can’t think of any jokes, so I’m going to plagiarize these.
- Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear smart until you hear them speak.
- What do you call a pig that does karate? A pork chop.
- What is a flea’s favorite way to travel? Itch hiking.
- What do you call two monkeys that share an Amazon account? Prime mates.
Okay. Ya basta! Enough already! I can hear you groaning from here, so I’ll stop writing before this gets worse.
