Royal Caribbean has changed the itinerary of Navigator of the Seas as Hurricane Polo moves off Mexico’s Pacific coast, canceling planned stops in Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas and adding Puerto Vallarta instead.
The 3,990-passenger cruise ship is now scheduled to arrive in Puerto Vallarta on Tuesday, September 29, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. The unexpected visit will bring an additional cruise call to the city this month.
The original itinerary called for Navigator of the Seas to visit Ensenada on Saturday, September 26, followed by Cabo San Lucas on Monday, September 28. Royal Caribbean changed those plans to keep the ship away from the area affected by the hurricane.
Passengers were notified of the changes on Wednesday. In its message to guests, Royal Caribbean explained that the Ensenada visit would be replaced by a day at sea because of severe weather associated with Hurricane Polo near western Mexico.
The revised itinerary will have the ship visiting Mazatlán on Monday, September 28, one day earlier than originally scheduled. It will then continue to Puerto Vallarta the following day.
After leaving Puerto Vallarta, Navigator of the Seas will spend two full days at sea before returning to Los Angeles, where the cruise is scheduled to end on October 2.
Royal Caribbean said the changes were made with the safety of passengers and crew as the priority, noting that the ship can move away from areas experiencing severe weather.
The September 29 call is particularly notable because it will be Navigator of the Seas’ final visit to Puerto Vallarta before leaving the region.
Following the cruise’s return to Los Angeles on October 2, the Royal Caribbean ship is scheduled to begin a 15-night voyage to Japan. It will then be based in Singapore, ending its current Mexican Riviera schedule.
The added call means Puerto Vallarta will receive nine cruise ship arrivals in September, one more than originally scheduled. The additional visit comes as the city’s cruise season begins transitioning out of its traditionally slower summer period.
