Nearly Half a Million Cruise Passengers Visited Vallarta in 2023

Puerto Vallarta is closing out 2023 in style, having welcomed nearly half a million cruise passengers aboard 176 ships from around the globe. This wave of tourism has significantly boosted the local economy, with each visitor spending an average of $120 on shore excursions and activities.

The year saw arrivals from over a dozen international cruise lines, contributing to a staggering total of more than 470,000 tourists. While December’s numbers, with 13 arrivals, fall short of previous months, this dip can be attributed to the temporary absence of the Carnival Panorama cruise ship for maintenance.

Data from the Jalisco Tourism Secretariat reveals that over 475,000 cruise passengers had already graced Puerto Vallarta’s shores by October, highlighting the vital role the industry plays in attracting tourism. Cruise transportation alone accounts for 9% of the city’s total tourist arrivals, solidifying its position as a key driver of Puerto Vallarta’s economic success.

As the curtain closes on 2023, one thing is clear: Puerto Vallarta has sailed into a prosperous future, fueled by the vibrant energy of its ever-growing cruise tourism industry.
