Vallarta Airport Terminal 2 Set for 2025 Completion

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Raúl Revuelta Musalem, the general director of Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), announced that construction of Terminal 2 at Puerto Vallarta International Airport is progressing. The terminal is expected to be completed next year, with airlines starting to move in gradually. However, it will not be fully operational until 2026.

Musalem explained that while the structure is already visible, the operational readiness of the terminal is a gradual process. “Next year it will be finished and we will begin the gradual move. Getting a new terminal up and running doesn’t happen overnight; it’s a very gradual process with airlines. I would say that the terminal will be 100 percent operational within two years,” he stated.

The new terminal will encompass over 68,000 square meters, representing a 150% increase in airport space. This expansion, accompanied by a 7 billion peso investment, will accommodate the airport’s growing passenger volume. The number of air passageways and remote boarding gates will increase from 11 to 19 and 9 to 16 respectively.

A distinctive feature of the project is its commitment to sustainability. The terminal is designed to be the first Zero Energy airport in Latin America. This will be achieved within 7.5 years through various strategies, including solar panels on the roof to reduce energy consumption by 40% and efficient water management to cut water usage by 35% through the reuse of all gray, black, and blue water.

Upon completion, Terminal 2 is projected to handle 4.5 million passengers annually. Currently, the Puerto Vallarta Airport serves 49 routes, divided into 13 domestic and 36 international destinations.
