October News from the Entreamigos Community Center

San Pancho, Nayarit, Mexico – Entreamigos began in 2006 on a kitchen table in the middle of a San Pancho street. Today, housed in a giant warehouse recognized as a model sustainable facility, it is an active community center with classes and workshops, a scholarship program, a bilingual library for children and adults, a computer center, an extensive recycling program, a gift store and the Recicla thrift shop. Here’s what’s happening this month at Entreamigos:

We are excited to share with you that we will reopen our doors to the public on October 11 with new hours from Monday to Friday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Here are some of the educational programs, environmental campaigns, community events and fundraising activities that will happen this season:

EDUCATION

Currently, the public schools of our town continue in virtual mode, with an announcement that they will return to face-to-face classes this month 2 days a week; however this can change at any time. In preparation for this school year, Entreamigos will continue to offer tutoring 4 hours a day, 5 days a week to support students with their homework.

Additionally, we offer free classes and workshops to the entire community: art, sports, storytelling and more. Once open, you can check our calendar on social media. Also, if they wish, they can be added to our WhatsApp group of Entreamigos users where they can receive information about our activities and events. To be added, simply send an email to info(at)entreamigos.org.mx with your name and phone number.

We are excited to announce that this year we will have English classes for children and adults, stay tuned for more details.

ENVIRONMENT

Our recycling team continues to work daily to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the landfill by collecting and separating the materials deposited in the 140 recycling cans distributed around town.

We have a new video that explains the types of materials that can be recycled at Entreamigos. Watch it HERE.

We will continue with our San Pancho Responsible Business campaign, which recognizes service providers that carry out sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.

If you own a business in town, separate your waste and would like to be part of this program, please send an email to info(at)entreamigos.org.mx with your name and contact information.

FUNDRAISING

Every year Entreamigos holds two annual fundraising events, in addition to soliciting support for specific programs. The first event, known as “Welcome Back,” has always benefited our library, and the second event, in February, is our grand general fundraiser.

This year the benefit for the library will happen virtually on October 28 under the title “Return to Education Night.” The decision to have this event online was made to take care of ourselves and maintain a healthy distance; to reach new people and members of our community who are not in San Pancho; and to help the staff maximize their time in providing the services for which we are raising funds.

The general fundraising event will take place on February 17 as part of our XV Children’s Art Festival. Our intention is to be able to hold this event in person, using our outdoor spaces.

This event goes hand in hand with a virtual auction that will take place online the two weeks prior to the event. If you have an item or service that you would like to donate as part of the auction, please send an email to Sarah at sarah(at)entreamigos.org.mx.

We want to thank each of you for your support of this important work for our community.
