Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The 68th Puerto Vallarta International Fishing Tournament is set to take place from November 13 to 16, continuing a rich tradition of sports tourism in the region. This year’s event, known as the Marlin and Tuna Fishing Tournament, promises excitement for anglers and spectators alike, with a prize pool totaling nearly 1.5 million pesos.
Organized by the Puerto Vallarta Sport Fishing Club, the tournament will feature 40 teams, each consisting of four participants, with competitors expected from the United States, Canada, and across Mexico. As of now, 12 teams have already signed up, with more expected before the tournament begins.
In line with conservation efforts, the Sailfish category will once again be excluded, a step aimed at helping the species recover. This practice has been adopted by several other tournaments as well.
Top prizes for the event include 500,000 pesos for the best Marlin catch, 100,000 pesos for the top Tuna, and high-quality fishing gear for the best Dorado. Second and third place winners will also walk away with substantial cash prizes, including up to 200,000 pesos for Marlin and premium fishing equipment for other categories.
The tournament kicks off with registration on November 13 from 5 to 10 pm, at the Club de Pesca, located at Hamburgo 145 in Colonia Versalles, followed by the official start at 7:00 a.m. the next morning in front of the Hotel Rosita in downtown Puerto Vallarta.
Daily weigh-ins and fishing receptions will be held between 2:00 and 6:00 pm each afternoon on the Marina Vallarta Malecón, next to the Marina del Rey condominiums, with final winners announced at an awards ceremony in the same location on November 16 at 7:00 pm.
The event is supported by a strong team of sponsors and local leaders, including representatives from the Puerto Vallarta Sport Fishing Club, Opequimar, and the Marina Vallarta Residents Association. With participation from international and local anglers, the tournament is poised to deliver another exciting and successful year.
