Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The countdown is on for Puerto Vallarta’s first International Trash Fishing Tournament, with registrations closing today, October 10th.
The event, organized by the environmental group Limpia tu Mar, has already garnered significant interest, boasting 17 registered teams and just three boats remaining for additional participants. “We’re thrilled with the response,” shared Rigoberto Pedroza Yaver, president of Limpia tu Mar. “The enthusiasm from participants, volunteers, and sponsors alike has been truly inspiring.”
The tournament, set to take place on October 20, aims to remove a ton of waste from Banderas Bay, promoting responsible waste management while fostering a spirit of community engagement. Those interested in joining can register on the Limpia tu Mar website for a fee of 4,000 pesos. This covers a boat, t-shirts, caps, gloves, garbage bags, and nets to ‘catch’ the trash. In addition, those who already have a boat and want to participate can also register.
Recognizing the role the culinary industry plays in waste generation, Chef Guillermo Wulff emphasizes the positive impact of the tournament. “This is a great opportunity for chefs and restaurateurs to become part of the solution,” he states. “We have a responsibility to the bay, and this event allows us to raise awareness and take action.”
Adding a unique culinary twist to the competition, five renowned culinary associations – Ellas Se Juntan, Chefs Anónimos, Beva, the Vallarta Culinary Association, and the Vatel Association – will set up five stations offering a variety of delicious dishes. From delectable pasta and barbecues to refreshing ceviches and seafood delights, there’s something for everyone.
Additionally, an open invitation has been extended to entrepreneurs to contribute supplies for the preparation of these culinary offerings, further strengthening the collaborative spirit of the event, which will be open to the general public.
With a focus on positive action and a dash of culinary flair, the International Trash Fishing Tournament promises to be a resounding success, leaving a cleaner Banderas Bay and a more environmentally conscious community in its wake.
