Puerto Vallarta Hotel Occupancy Reflects Tourism Recovery

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – After the economic recession that was experienced due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, PV’s tourism recovery figures are encouraging. Proof of this is the data provided by the year-on-year comparison of hotel occupancy carried out by the Puerto Vallarta City Council’s Directorate of Tourism and Economic Development.

The analysis compares the month of February 2021 with February 2022, highlighting that while in that period last year there was an average monthly occupancy of 28.30%, which meant 82,962 occupied rooms and an average income of $192,995,541 pesos.

This year, there was a 72.18% average monthly hotel occupancy, with 217,117 occupied rooms and an average income of 672,596,000 pesos.

Achieving an additional 43.88% in hotel occupancy is clear evidence of the recovery of tourism in Puerto Vallarta, where hotels had 134,155 more rooms occupied than in the same period last year. This also reflects an increase of almost $500 million ($479,596,458) Pesos in income compared to 2021.

The head of the agency, Ludvig Estrada Virgen, highlighted that hotel occupancy has been at an average of over 87 percent on weekends. He said that since more flights are arriving at the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, more tourists are coming to enjoy this popular beach vacation destination, which results in more occupied rooms.

The official indicated that national tourism is also responding very positively to Puerto Vallarta, which is evidenced by both the number of domestic flights arriving and by the arrival of cars from different entities of the Republic.
