Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The Director of Beach Tourism, Jorge Quintero Alvarado, reported that, for this coming long weekend, Puerto Vallarta hotels could reach 100% occupancy.
Monday, March 21st is a national holiday as the people of Mexico celebrate the birthday of Benito Juárez, who served five terms as President and is regarded as one of the greatest heroes in Mexican history.
With schools, government offices and many businesses throughout the country closed, national tourists will be flocking to beaches of Puerto Vallarta to enjoy the three-day holiday weekend, known as a “puente” (bridge) in Mexico.
“A minimum of 80.3% occupancy is estimated, and we hope that Puerto Vallarta will be at 100%, or close to it, in lodging, either way we expect we’ll be receiving a lot of tourism.”
Quintero Alvarado said that after two years of low hotel occupancy, the city expects that they will be close to full this coming weekend. He commented that the national market will be predominant, but the international market will also be present.
For this reason, a campaign has been launched to promote security measures on the region’s beaches and rivers, in addition to various checkpoints that will be installed on the main avenues to guarantee the safety of travelers.
He stressed that Puerto Vallarta hotels, restaurants and the entire tourism industry are prepared for this long weekend, and that they will be operating with the correct application of corresponding health protocols: the use of face masks, temperature taking and presentation of the vaccination certificate.
This is a kind of ‘test’ for Puerto Vallarta, as it will be the last ‘bridge’ before the two-week-long Semana Santa and Pascua (Holy Week and Easter Week) vacation period, when all activities will be allowed for the first time in two years and hotel occupancy is expected to exceed 95%.
