Puerto Vallarta Intensifies Flood Prevention Citywide

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Municipal teams across Puerto Vallarta have intensified their seasonal preparations, focusing on a comprehensive effort to safeguard neighborhoods and infrastructure before the arrival of the summer rains. Under the direction of Mayor Luis Munguía, crews are working around the clock to clean and dredge essential storm drains throughout the region.

These proactive measures are designed to ensure that rainwater flows efficiently through the city’s drainage systems, effectively reducing the risk of flooding for local families.

The Directorate of Infrastructure and Public Works is leading this coordinated effort, drawing on resources from various municipal departments and the technical expertise of SEAPAL Vallarta. Teams are currently deployed at several strategic drainage points, including the Tamarindos neighborhood in Ixtapa and critical canals in Las Juntas and Portales.

Significant progress is also being made along the Libramiento Luis Donaldo Colosio and the Contentillo canal in the Calvario district. By focusing on these high-priority waterways, the city is building a more resilient drainage network capable of handling heavy tropical downpours.

Community engagement remains a cornerstone of this safety strategy. Officials recently conducted supervisory tours alongside residents in Las Mojoneras to identify specific areas of concern and implement immediate solutions. This collaborative approach is further strengthened by the involvement of local professional associations, whose members have joined working groups to offer technical insights.

By combining municipal resources with the expertise of local specialists and the vigilance of neighbors, the city is creating a comprehensive shield against weather-related damage.

Beyond the waterways, the city is also focusing on maintaining smooth transit for residents and visitors. Maintenance crews are actively leveling and watering alternate routes, such as the Cañadas and Federación roads, to keep traffic moving safely during both day and night hours. These road improvements work in tandem with the canal cleaning to provide a safer environment for everyone.

According to Engineer Andrés Abundis, Director of Infrastructure and Public Works, these actions represent a permanent commitment to the municipality’s well-being. By maintaining watercourse infrastructure in optimal condition now, the city ensures that the upcoming rainy season is defined by safety and stability rather than disruption.

This ongoing dedication to preventive maintenance highlights a clear vision for a secure and well-prepared Puerto Vallarta.
