Puerto Vallarta International Airport Expansion 40% Complete

Puerto Vallarta International Airport Expansion 40% Complete

Puerto Vallarta’s international airport is undergoing a major transformation with the construction of Terminal 2, a project that promises to enhance connectivity and accommodate growing passenger demand. Last weekend, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco, along with authorities from Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), toured the construction site to oversee progress.

Currently, the project is 40 percent complete. Once finished, the new terminal will serve over eight million passengers annually, reinforcing Puerto Vallarta’s position as a world-class destination. The expansion covers more than 89,000 square meters and is designed to handle both domestic and international flights efficiently. With advanced technology, the upgraded airport will streamline the check-in and boarding process, improving the overall travel experience.

“Puerto Vallarta is already an established destination and one of the most successful in the world,” said Fridman Hirsch. “With projects like this, with the infrastructure to come, and with private investment, tourism will continue to grow, not just in Puerto Vallarta, but in Guadalajara as well.”

The construction includes 23,000 tons of steel and 31 seismic isolators, ensuring a safe and resilient structure. Additionally, Terminal 2 is set to receive LEED Gold Certification, an internationally recognized mark of sustainability and energy efficiency. This commitment to environmentally responsible infrastructure further solidifies Puerto Vallarta’s reputation as a forward-thinking travel hub.

Authorities also highlighted the broader scope of investments in Jalisco’s airports. A total of 26 billion pesos is being allocated under GAP’s 2025-2029 Master Development Plan, including 22.377 billion pesos for Guadalajara International Airport, marking the largest investment in Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico’s history.

With Terminal 2 nearing completion, Puerto Vallarta International Airport is set to elevate the region’s connectivity, attract new international markets, and continue its legacy as a premier tourist destination.
