Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Starting November 19, 2024, Puerto Vallarta’s popular Malecón Sculpture Walking Tours, led by Galería Pacifico owner Gary Thompson, will once again offer a fun and educational way to experience the city’s iconic art scene. These weekly tours, running through mid-April 2025, are completely free and offer an insightful journey through the whimsical sculptures lining the famous Malecón.
Each tour begins at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, starting at the “Millennium” sculpture near Hotel Rosita at the Malecón’s north end. Along the way, Gary shares fascinating stories about the history and artists behind roughly 16 sculptures, pointing out intriguing details that many might miss on their own. His personal connections with many of the artists add a special touch, making the experience both engaging and educational.
With no need for reservations, visitors are invited to simply arrive, enjoy the walk, and gain a deeper appreciation for Puerto Vallarta’s rich artistic heritage. The two-hour tour concludes around noon, leaving participants inspired by both the art and the city’s creative spirit.
Although the tour is free, donations are gladly accepted for Biblioteca Los Mangos, Puerto Vallarta’s underfunded public library. Gary Thompson, a long-time resident, shared his thoughts: “It’s an amazing project. Los Mangos receives very little support from the government, and it’s important for us to give back to our community. I’ve spent most of my life in this wonderful city, and I’m mindful of the difference we can make.”
So, slip on a pair of comfortable shoes, and come enjoy an unforgettable stroll along the Malecón, where art and culture come to life.
