Puerto Vallarta Moves Forward with Historic Center Revitalization

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta’s historic heart is set for a transformation as municipal and state officials take steps to enhance El Centro while preserving its traditional charm. Mayor Luis Munguía and Jalisco’s Secretary of Tourism, Michelle Friedman, recently toured the Malecón and surrounding areas to assess immediate needs and future improvements.

The tour conducted by Mayor Munguía and Secretary Friedman allowed them to pinpoint key areas for improvement. Plans are underway to upgrade the lighting, replace worn street furniture, and remove obsolete telephone booths. Enhancements to the pedestrian experience are also being considered, including seamlessly connecting the Malecón’s various sections.

Officials are committed to maintaining the area’s cultural and architectural heritage while supporting local businesses and the economy. This initiative includes a thorough review of La Isla Cuale, municipal markets and plazas, ensuring that changes align with urban regulations and community needs.

The revitalization effort will also introduce cultural activities in Hidalgo Park, coordinated with the Jalisco Tourism Secretariat and the State Culture Secretariat. This collaboration marks a significant step in preserving the character of El Centro while reinforcing Puerto Vallarta’s position as a premier tourist destination.
