Puerto Vallarta Secures Disaster Relief Funds for Flood Recovery

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The City Council of Puerto Vallarta has approved a major relief initiative to support residents impacted by the September 19 floods. Under the leadership of Mayor Luis Munguía, the city successfully obtained more than 2.5 million pesos in aid from the State Natural Disaster Fund Trust (FOEDEN), ensuring immediate assistance for affected families and communities.

Puerto Vallarta’s contribution of over 500,000 pesos represents 20% of the total relief fund, with the state government covering the remainder. Mayor Munguía thanked Governor Pablo Lemus for his swift response and partnership, underscoring their joint commitment to public well-being.

A total of 93 homes across neighborhoods including Las Mojoneras, Las Juntas, Ixtapa, La Floresta, Cañadas, and Campestre Las Palmas suffered damage during the floods. Four schools – Ramón Corona Kindergarten, 49th Intermediate Secondary School, Ciplactli Kindergarten, and José Baumgartem Joya Elementary – also reported extensive losses.

Municipal brigades began immediate response operations the day after the storm, delivering essential supplies such as food, cleaning kits, and household goods. Relief efforts have been coordinated with support from the Vallarta DIF System, the Jalisco DIF System, and the State Red Cross, ensuring that aid reaches even the most affected areas.

Early assistance included 19 cots and mattresses, more than 300 cleaning kits, and 315 food parcels distributed in Cañadas, Mojoneras, and La Floresta. The Municipal Judges’ Office, coordinated by Rosalba Delgado, also contributed with food packages, clothing, and additional cleaning supplies.

In neighborhoods like Parque Las Palmas, residents expressed appreciation for the municipal government’s swift and hands-on response. City Hall staff, led by officials such as Maestra Lucía Carmina Michel and DIF President Claudia Peña, have been delivering aid door-to-door to ensure no family is left behind.

“Since the first hours of the emergency, we have been addressing the needs of those affected by the flood waters,” said Peña. “We’ll continue visiting every home to make sure families get the help they need to recover.”

With united efforts between city and state agencies, Puerto Vallarta is taking concrete steps toward recovery, ensuring affected families receive the resources and support needed to rebuild their lives.
