Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – As the 2026-2027 school year gets underway, Puerto Vallarta families are receiving help with some of the costs that come with sending children back to class. More than 26,000 students are set to receive school supplies, uniforms and shoes through the city’s Mi Educación Renace program.
Distribution of the assistance packages will begin August 31 and continue through September 4 at schools across the municipality. According to Moisés Santana, Deputy Director of Social Programs, a total of 26,525 students are expected to benefit.
The program, led by the Puerto Vallarta municipal government under Mayor Luis Munguía, is being carried out in coordination with the Jalisco government through its Recrea program. The packages have already arrived in Puerto Vallarta and are ready to be delivered to students.
Each participating student will receive school uniforms, a backpack filled with supplies and a pair of shoes. The goal is to help families manage the additional expenses that come with the beginning of a new school year while making sure students have some of the basic items needed for classes.
Free medical services also available
Back-to-school assistance is also extending to children’s health. As students return to classrooms, Puerto Vallarta’s Health Promotion Directorate continues providing free services for children and adolescents through Dr. Tucán’s Medical Clinics.
Services include school medical certificates, general consultations, psychological care, eye examinations and prescription glasses. Dr. Miguel Ángel Suárez Ornelas, director of the agency, said the program gives families an opportunity to address preventative health needs while also helping reduce expenses during a time when school-related costs can quickly add up.
Families can visit one of three permanent clinics:
Mojoneras: Jalisco Street 216, corner of Zacatecas Street
Ixtapa: Mango Street 361, corner of Jalisco Street
El Coapinole: Ecuador Street 650, corner of 21 de Marzo Street
The clinics operate Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. A Mobile Medical Unit also continues traveling to neighborhoods throughout the municipality, bringing services closer to local families who may have difficulty reaching a permanent clinic.
To register for the medical services, parents or guardians need to present the student’s CURP and proof of address. Once registered, children and adolescents can receive free medical care not only during the back-to-school period but throughout the year.
Together, the education and health initiatives provide families with practical support as the new school year begins. For many parents, having help with school essentials and access to free medical services can make the transition back to the classroom a little easier.
