Puerto Vallarta the Safest City in Jalisco, Fifth Safest in Mexico

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta continues to solidify its reputation as a safe and inviting destination, ranking as the safest city in Jalisco and the 5th safest in all of Mexico. This achievement is based on the latest findings from the INEGI National Urban Public Security Survey (ENSU) for the third quarter of 2024.

To determine the public’s perception of security in cities throughout Mexico, every year during the first two weeks of March, June, September and December, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) conducts a National Urban Public Security Survey among the population over 18 years of age who reside in the 91 cities considered to be of interest in the national territory.

In the most recent survey, published on Monday, October 21, only 21.3% of Puerto Vallarta residents aged 18 and over reported feeling unsafe, a marked improvement from the 29.0% recorded in the previous quarter. This positive shift highlights the city’s commitment to ensuring a secure environment for both its residents and the thousands of visitors it welcomes every year.

Compared to other cities in Jalisco, Puerto Vallarta’s safety ratings are exceptional. In Guadalajara, 75.2% of residents reported feeling insecure, while Tlaquepaque and Tlajomulco showed similar concerns, with 68.9% and 67.1% of their populations feeling unsafe, respectively.

On a national level, Puerto Vallarta stands alongside cities like San Pedro Garza García (13.7%) and Benito Juárez (17.5%) as some of the safest in Mexico. Conversely, cities like Tapachula and Naucalpan de Juárez ranked highest in perceived insecurity, with over 88% of their populations expressing concerns about safety.

The ENSU also revealed broader trends in perceptions of insecurity across Mexico. Nationwide, 58.6% of people aged 18 and over felt unsafe in their city, with particular concerns about specific locations. ATMs on public roads, public transportation, and streets frequently used were among the places where people felt most vulnerable.

Puerto Vallarta’s continued focus on safety, combined with its stunning beaches, rich culture, and lively nightlife, offers a compelling package for tourists and retirees alike. With each survey showing improvements, it’s clear that the city’s efforts are paying off. Now, visitors can confidently add “safety” to the list of reasons why Puerto Vallarta is the perfect choice for a relaxing getaway or a peaceful place to call home.
