Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – At only 13 years old, Puerto Vallarta singer Ángelo “Angeloo” Covarrubias has added another major achievement to his growing list of musical accomplishments. Representing Puerto Vallarta and the Western Sierra Coast Region, the young performer won first place in the state finals of Suenan las Juventudes, held in Guadalajara.
Angeloo competed against young performers from across Jalisco, ultimately earning the top spot and a 20,000-peso prize for his performance.
Born and raised in Puerto Vallarta, Angeloo began performing publicly about three years ago. Since then, he has become a familiar face on local stages, regularly taking part in singing competitions and other events. His performances have earned him a strong following among both residents and visitors.
Much of his musical development has come through his own determination. Angeloo taught himself to sing and even learned to speak English while playing PlayStation. He can play the piano, guitar and drums and has recently begun learning the saxophone. His talents also extend to the classroom, where he has received recognition for several academic projects.
His growing list of competition victories includes “So You Think You Can Rise 2024,” “Canta Bahía Canta 2024,” “The Voice Kids Zapopan 2025,” and was named the “Vallarta’s Best Young Artist 2026.” In preparation for “Suenan las Juventudes,” he performed weekly at La Catrina Cantina, using each appearance to strengthen his stage presence and prepare for the state competition.
Angeloo also draws inspiration from Dimash Qudaibergen, the acclaimed Kazakh singer known for his extraordinary vocal range. The Puerto Vallarta teenager has incorporated Dimash’s music into his performances and regularly pays tribute to the artist who has influenced his musical journey.
For the state competition, Angeloo performed a Spanish-language version of “SOS,” offering his own tribute to Dimash. The performance connected his admiration for the singer with his own developing style and gave the audience a glimpse of the young artist’s dedication.
Reaching the state finals was also a team effort. Angeloo received support from the government of Puerto Vallarta, led by architect Luis Munguía, along with guidance from the Puerto Vallarta Youth Directorate under Herova Olmos.
His first-place finish puts a young Puerto Vallarta performer in the spotlight at the state level. More than another trophy, the victory reflects the hours of practice, persistence and love of music that have shaped Angeloo’s journey so far.
As he accepted the recognition in Guadalajara, Angeloo carried more than the pride of representing his hometown. Through his music, he also shared a message of peace and love, showing how a young performer can use his voice to reach audiences far beyond the stages where his journey began.
