Puerto Vallarta’s Catrina Always Has the Last Laugh

Puerto Vallarta’s Catrina Always Has the Last Laugh

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Every year, Día de Muertos brings a special kind of magic to Puerto Vallarta, as the Malecón becomes a showcase for the imagination, creativity, and artistry of the season. Among the many beautiful tributes to departed loved ones, one towering lady has become impossible to miss. And MiMi Bomba has a few thoughts about her!

Remember a few years ago when Guadalajara’s Catrina was taller than Puerto Vallarta’s Catrina? (Catrina? Katrina? I’m never sure… I see it spelled both ways so I looked it up. Both ways are okay. Ambiguity always confuses me.)

And what did Puerto Vallarta do? Easy answer. We put her on a platform and raised her up another couple of feet. We won!

I’m not sure who made that decision, but I’m pretty sure it was a dude. It just seems kind of macho, you know, like, what are we really measuring here?

In any case, she is wonderful and beautiful and magic! Catrina is higher and prettier than ever and has a view of Bahia de Banderas, which is something Guadalajara will never have!

Enjoy the season. Honor your loved ones who have passed and be sure to walk down the Malecon to see all the beautiful effort and artistry that has gone into Dia de Los Muertos!

Happy Halloween!
